McQueens Dairies has been providing customers with a milk and egg delivery to doorsteps across the country for over 25 years. We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality farm fresh free range eggs to our customers. You may be wondering how we source them. We tell you below.

Nith Valley

We source our free range eggs from Nith Valley who are based in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The farm is a thirty acre site and is a former quarry and covered in a variety of trees. Therefore, it makes it an ideal setting for the six production sheds which are dotted around the modern sorting and packing unit. The beautiful landscape of the farm has been described as second to none amongst egg producers UK wide. The location has been well utilised to make the perfect home for the 13,000 hens currently at Nith Valley.

The hen’s health and well being are priorities at Nith Valley. This has been emphasised by the freedom that the birds have to roam through the bracken and bushes. Such emphasis is applied to providing the very best home and care possible to the hens . This is because Nith Valley strongly believes this aids the production of the freshest free range eggs from the hens. In terms of free range egg delivery suppliers, Nith Valley is most certainly unique in its setting. They are currently the only free range woodland based farm in the county.

From the beginning of Nith Valley in 2009, the company has successfully expanded. Nith Valley is officially recognised as one of the top Scottish producers of free range eggs. The woodland farm provides our hens with the freedom to roam and produce some of the best quality free range eggs in Scotland. This is why at McQueens Dairies we work with Nith Valley to deliver the very best eggs to our customers.

Egg Delivery

There are various things you can make with your egg delivery. Whether you are making breakfast with your free range eggs or baking, you can always find a use for your eggs. There’s nothing like a fresh, yellow, Nith Valley free-range egg yolk, so don’t waste them if you’ve been whipping up a meringue. You can use your egg yolk to make a hollandaise sauce or a lemon or vanilla curd for a dessert.

If you have the egg whites leftover from your egg delivery, you can freeze them to keep for a later date. You can thaw them overnight in the fridge and you can whisk them up for meringue and pavlova. You can also use them for omelettes, breads or pastries. However we would recommend you use them asap.

Our customers love their egg delivery and often comment on how delicious they are. ” I get my milk and egg delivery every Monday morning from McQueens Dairies. It is the perfect addition to our breakfasts and our children love the eggs. The yolks are so orange and you can tell they are of a high quality. Therefore we will be continuing to purchase and order from McQueens Dairies”.

With no animal or dairy ingredients, lactose free milk is perfect for vegans and vegetarians who follow a strict dairy free diet.

By Oato not delivering the oat milk themselves, this means they are saving resources and supporting businesses at the same time. With Chris’ background in chemistry and business and an even stronger interest in the sustainability of the environment, Oato was created.

Bringing back a well-loved tradition

The demand for a milk delivery in the glass reusable bottles was once a forgotten memory. However more recently the demand for a milk delivery has surged through the awareness of the effects plastic can have on our environment. The glass pint has been an iconic symbol of the small British business and dedicated delivery service.  By using the pint bottle we’re bringing back a tradition whilst moving forward with the times. The glass bottles are used at least 25 times before being recycled which means a reduction in plastic waste. As a result of this, the glass is then recycled and reused McQueens Dairies have been serving our community of customers for decades and by choosing Oato to be delivered to your doorstep you are helping to support the move to a plant-based future.

Kate Garraway recently left Good Morning Britain viewers in hysterics when she made an accidental innuendo while commending her milkman Mick for delivering her milk throughout the recent coronavirus pandemic.

She indicated that Mick had been leaving notes on her doorstep when delivering, asking her if she would like any extras. She said: ‘Mick, my milkman, who has just been amazing. He has absolutely just kept me going. He’ll leave me a little note saying “do you need anything extra other than the milk?”

After a split second pause, Ben burst out laughing as did presenters Alex Beresford and Richard Arnold. When Kate had quickly realised what she had said, she began to laugh, putting her head in her hands in embarrassment. Co-presenter Ben shepherd teased if Mick had seen Kate in her dressing gown when going to collect the milk to which Kate replied “And a shower cap… Mick, thank you. Shall we move on as I’ve got myself in trouble. Even I didn’t see that one coming” before moving on to the next item on the show.

Milk Delivery

Mick the milkman was soon trending at the number 1 position on Twitter with viewers tweeting of their appreciation of key workers like Mick throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Later on in the show, Kate joked “Oh God I hope his family weren’t watching. He’s going to get back from his round and they’ll say “what the heck has been going on?”‘ One user responded on Twitter with “Very funny, but joking aside this milkman should be recognised for his caring nature”. Another wrote “It’s people like Mick who have kept the country going in the last year. We should show more appreciation to the overlooked key workers like milkmen and postmen”. It was said that Mick seen the funny side to Kate’s slip-up and joined in on the hilarity. He is reported to still be delivering to her and her family.

Everybody loves macaroni cheese. It’s a classic and makes for the ultimate comfort food. We are sure you will love this tasty and easy to make macaroni cheese recipe, made with your McQueens Dairies milk.

This is a perfect dish for all the family and any leftovers will keep for up to 1 week and can be reheated in the microwave. The dish isn’t going to win any prizes in the nutrition department, but you can balance it with a salad if you like.

Easy, creamy macaroni cheese

Servings 4 People

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Macaroni
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • 500ml ml McQueens Dairies milk
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 500 g Cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Add your macaroni to a pot of boiling salted water, boil until soft and ready. Then drain the macaroni and set aside.
  • In a large pan or bowl, melt butter over a medium to high heat. Stir in the flour and very gradually whisk in your McQueens Dairies milk until smooth and creamy. Then you will add in the garlic powder.
  • Stir in cheese until completely melted and fully incorporated into the mix. Add a little more milk if needed to thin the sauce if it is too thick for your liking. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir in the boiled macaroni and then enjoy your creamy macaroni and cheese dish.

Hints and tips for making the perfect creamy Macaroni Cheese

  1. Adding some salt into your water will help to ensure it’s well seasoned so we recommend doing this.
  2. Include a dash of cream to your pasta. This will give your macaroni cheese a richer taste that is just as silky as it is creamy.
  3. Don’t go easy on the cheese. It’s better to have more than to have less so add more than you would usually to make for a real cheesy dish.
  4. Use your McQueens Dairies milk to your advantage. You can use the milk to adjust the thickness of the sauce. The more milk you add, the less thick it will become and vice versa. If you have made extra and want to keep for another day, when you go to heat it back up, add some milk to help cream it all together. We recommend using whole milk but you can also use semi skimmed or skimmed.

Why have I received plastic cartons instead of glass?

An email was sent out to inform customers the reason for this.  To remind you, during the festive period we have found in previous years that the weight of double deliveries in glass bottles, can be a strain on both the delivery staff and vehicles and awkward for our customers storing them in their fridges.

For a very short temporary measure, your glass bottles may have to be replaced with a recyclable plastic alternative from 15th December until  7th January. We thank you for your understanding with this and can reassure you that your order will return as normal on 7th January.

Increased demand for milk deliveries

Our brand new 6.5-acre dairy in East Kilbride, Scotland will see McQueens Dairies milk production capacity more than double.  The new McQueens dairy in East Kilbride includes the latest dairy technology including new refrigeration plant and pasteurising equipment, new filler lines and a significantly enhanced milk glass bottling line.

McQueens Dairies have seen a huge increase in demand for milk deliveries in East Kilbride and throughout the UK. Chairman Mick McQueen said: “Investing in a new, large dairy is at the heart of the business’s growth plans. Our production capacity has now more than doubled. This allows us to confidently meet increasing customer demand and to continue to invest in other parts of the business such as our distribution depot network, our fleet, and of course in our staff.

Our doorstep milk delivery business was growing significantly before the coronavirus pandemic hit the country. However, we have witnessed significantly faster growth as people demanded safer and reliable food delivery services such as a milkman delivery service”

We have seen a clear change in consumer buying habits in recent months. We are confident that demand for safe and reliable doorstep milk deliveries will continue.

“It is also very pleasing to be able to buy more raw milk from First Milk- a dairy farmer owned co-operative that has been supplying us for many years.”

Ambitious Expansion

First Milk commercial director Fraser Brown said: “It is great to see McQueens Dairies opening its new dairy in East Kilbride and continuing its ambitious expansion. We have been supplying McQueens Dairies with fresh raw milk direct from our dairy farmer members for many years. Our farmers are committed to sustainable dairy production and we look forward to continuing to work with McQueens Dairies in the future to help them bring great tasting dairy to their milk delivery customers across Scotland and the north of England.”

East Kilbride Dairy

The Nerston plant was the perfect location for the new McQueens dairy. This was previously the site for both Muller and Wiseman’s Dairies.  The German based company took over the East Kilbride headquartered Robert Wiseman Dairies in 2012 in a £279 million deal. In 2016, Muller announced it was closing its Aberdeen and East Kilbride dairies, with a loss of around 225 jobs.  This devastating news hit the East Kilbride area in June of 2016 and the dairy was later closed in 2018.

Muller said both dairies had been operating “well below full utilisation” and therefore had decided to close the facilities. This was to allow Muller to expand and introduce new products to their current existing product line. The East Kilbride Dairy could no longer facilitate these plans. Since then, the dairy in East Kilbride has been lying empty.

Over the course of the expansion, McQueens Dairies plans to hire over 100 members of staff to help with the new demand for contact free milk deliveries in East Kilbride and throughout the UK. The new roles include Milkmen Delivery Jobs, Customer service Roles, Dairy operatives, Field Sales Representatives and Office and Admin staff.

Job Boost for East Kilbride

Many local MP’s have said it is a great boost to East Kilbride jobs. MSP Linda Fabiani said: “This is certainly good news for East Kilbride. Time after time companies are recognising East Kilbride as an excellent business location.” MSP Graham Simpson also said: “It is great to have this investment in the town and to see the company making use of an empty building.

.McQueens Dairies are proud to announce the new opportunities in the East Kilbride area and beyond with the expansion plans. We are delighted to be able to create so many job opportunities in the area with the new state of the art dairy.
