At McQueenβs Dairies, great service doesnβt stop at delivery β itβs built through relationships, trust, and the people who make every customer feel valued. The heart of that story is Megan, a dedicated team leader who plays a key role in keeping those values alive today.
Starting her journey as a team leader at just 21, Megan quickly stepped into a fast-paced role that shaped her confidence and leadership style. Playing a key role in keeping customers and her team happy, engaged, and coming back for more. Her story reflects both how far McQueens has come and the values that continue to drive it forward.
Hereβs what Megan had to say to us:
Becoming a team leader early in your career is a big moment β how did it feel when you were first given the role?Β Β
Becoming a team leader at 21 was a moment of immense pride and a powerful reminder that growth begins where doubt exists. When you give something your all and lead with determination, thereβs no limit to what you can achieve.
WhatβsΒ been the biggest learning curve for you so far in leading a team, especially at this stage in your career?Β
I had the opportunity to build and lead my own team, and while I initially questioned whetherΒ IβdΒ be taken seriously as a young woman managing people twice my age and working within aΒ predominantly maleΒ management team, I refused to let doubt define me. I led with confidence, resilience, and a fiery determination that showed every time I stood up for my team. IΒ wasnβtΒ afraid to speak up, protect them, and lead from the front, because having my teamβs back was never optional it was who I am as a leader.Β Β
YouβveΒ helped introduce a few initiatives in the office to support women β what motivated you to start those, and what impact have you seen so far?Β
I introduced a weekly βGirlie Hourβ within the Sales, Retentions, and Win-Back teams,Β one dedicated hour each week created in response to the lack of female support within the office. I experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to come into work and feel unable to openly express certain matters in aΒ predominantly maleΒ environment. This is no fault of my male colleagues, but some conversations simplyΒ benefitΒ from a womanβs understanding and perspective.Β
βGirlie Hourβ now provides a safe, confidential space where women can talk openly about anything on their minds,Β whether work-related or personal. The impact has been incredible. Each week, more women attend, and many now reach out for one-on-one conversations throughout the week. Seeing this space grow into a source of support, connection, and empowerment has been one of the most rewarding parts of myΒ leadership journey.Β
Have there been moments whereΒ youβveΒ had to push yourself out of your comfort zone, andΒ whatβsΒ helped you build confidence as a leader?Β
Absolutely. Stepping into leadership atΒ a young ageΒ pushed me well outside my comfort zone, especially in aΒ predominantly maleΒ environment where I sometimes questioned whether I was βgood enough.β What grounded me was a quote I hold close:Β βComparison ruins joy.βΒ I built confidence by backing myself, speaking up, and consistently showing up for my team. Leading authentically and creating space for others like through βGirlieΒ Hour “showedΒ me that when you lead with purpose, not fear, confidence grows, and support flows both ways.Β
For other young women starting out in their careers, what advice would you give about backing yourself and taking opportunities when they come up?Β
Always believe in yourself, even when your own thoughts try to convince you otherwise. Back yourself before anyone else does, take opportunities when they arise, andΒ donβtΒ let fear or self-doubt stop you from trying. Growth comes from showing up, staying determined, and refusing to give up because the moment you do, you limit whatΒ youβreΒ capable of.Β
