Tip 1, Get McQueens Dairies Milk Delivered

When it comes to milk delivery, our service stands out because we run our own dairy and have our own depots, ensuring unparalleled freshness from farm to doorstep. By eliminating middlemen, we deliver milk directly from our farm to your home swiftly, resulting in a product that is hours fresh, not days.

Our commitment to freshness is unmatched. We constantly improve our processes to ensure our milk stays fresher for longer. From advanced cooling techniques at our dairy to state-of-the-art refrigeration at our depots, we take every step necessary to maintain the milk’s optimal quality. Choose our service for the freshest milk in the country and experience the difference it makes.

Tip 2, Make sure you have specific delivery instructions on account

To ensure your milk stays as fresh as possible, we encourage you to leave specific delivery instructions. By providing us with details on where to leave your milk, you can help maintain its quality even in warmer weather. Consider choosing a location that remains shaded and cool during delivery times.

For instance, if your back door isn’t facing the sun in the morning, it can be an ideal spot. Alternatively, you might have a covered area, like a carport or a safe space that provides additional protection from the heat. These small steps can make a big difference in keeping your milk at its best.

Your input helps us deliver the freshest product right to your preferred spot, so please share any special instructions when you place your order.

Tip 3, Buy one of our fully recyclable Milk Lockers for your doorstep

To ensure your milk stays fresh and secure, consider using our McQueens Milk Lockers. These specially designed lockers provide excellent thermal insulation, protecting your milk from heat and ensuring it stays cool even on the hottest days. Made from durable, fully recyclable materials, our milk lockers also safeguard your deliveries from the elements and curious wildlife. Simply place the locker at your preferred delivery spot, whether it’s by your front door, in a shaded area, or under a carport, for optimal freshness and security.

For more details on McQueens Milk Lockers, visit McQueens Dairies Milk Lockers.

Tip 4, Or DIY your own cool box!

Ensuring your milk stays fresh can be simple with a bit of preparation. Here are a few ideas for creating your own cool box or insulated container for your deliveries:

  1. Insulated Cooler Bag: Place a small insulated cooler bag at your doorstep. These bags are great at maintaining low temperatures and can easily fit a few bottles of milk.
  2. Repurposed Cooler: Use an old camping cooler. Line it with ice packs or frozen gel packs to keep your milk chilled until you can bring it inside.
  3. Thermal Bag Inside a Box: Put a thermal grocery bag inside a sturdy box. This adds an extra layer of insulation, keeping the milk cooler for longer periods.
  4. Styrofoam Box: If you have a Styrofoam box, these are excellent at insulating. Add some ice packs, and it will act as a temporary fridge for your milk.

By using these simple solutions, you can ensure your milk stays fresh until you’re ready to bring it inside.

McQueens Dairies has today become accredited as a Living Wage employer. Their Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at McQueens Dairies across their dairy, offices and depots around the country receive a minimum hourly wage of Β£10.90 per hour. This rate is higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at Β£10.42 per hour.

In Scotland, 91% of all jobs pay at least the real Living Wage, this is higher than any other UK nation. Despite this, nearly 1 in 10 jobs still pay less than the real Living Wage which equates to 221,000 jobs.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate calculated according to the costs of living. Employers choose to pay the real Living Wage on a voluntary basis, recognising the value of their workers and ensuring that a hard day’s work receives a fair day’s pay.

Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 60,000 people in Scotland and put over Β£370 million extra into the pockets of low-paid Scottish workers.

Calum McQueen, Commercial Director of McQueens Dairies said:

β€œI’m thrilled to share that we’ve proudly become a Living Wage employer, ensuring that every member of our dedicated team receives a fair and sustainable wage, particularly in the current climate.

It’s part of our commitment to not only produce and deliver the freshest milk but also credit the incredible individuals who make it all possible. Together, we’re building a workplace where we work hard to develop, retain and fairly reward our staff as we continue to grow.”

Liam Houghton, Webchat & Retentions Specialist who will benefit from the Living Wage uplift said:

β€œMcQueens Dairies becoming an accredited Living Wage employer has been a very positive change. Before, I would spend most months just getting by but now- I’m able to cover everything extremely easily and now I’m also able to occasionally treat myself which has been really nice!”

Peter Kelly, Director of The Poverty Alliance said:

β€œWe all need an income that is enough to cover our needs and protect us from poverty, and it’s only right that employers pay a wage that reflects the cost of living. Too many workers in Scotland are paid less than the real Living Wage and, at a time of rising costs, are struggling to stay afloat. The real Living Wage can offer protection from those rising costs.”

β€œCongratulations to McQueens Dairies on their Living Wage commitment, and I hope more organisations follow their lead by becoming Living Wage accredited.”

Lynn Anderson, Living Wage Scotland Manager said:

β€œWe’re delighted that McQueens Dairies has become an accredited Living Wage employer. They join a growing movement of over 3000 employers in Scotland who together want to ensure workers have what they need.

Our Living Wage employer network includes well known organisations such as SSE plc, ENABLE Scotland and the University of Strathclyde as well as lots of smaller employers and we hope to see many more follow their example.”

What is flavoured milk?

Flavoured milk is milk to which a flavour has been added. It’s a fun way to enjoy fresh, nutritious milk.

What does flavoured milk contain?

McQueens Dairies flavoured milk is made with milk, sugar, flavourings, and natural food colourings. Full Ingredients and nutritional information for all three flavoured milks can be found on the product page of each flavour:

How often can I get flavoured milk delivered?

Our flavoured milks are currently only available for delivery on Thursdays and Fridays, depending on when your driver calls in your area.

How much does the flavoured milk cost

Each flavour costs Β£1.49 per pint. Delivery is completely free of charge!

What is the difference between flavoured milk and milkshakes?

A milkshake is typically blended with ice cream. Flavoured milk is just thatβ€”milk with flavouring mixed in.

Is flavoured milk healthy?

Similarly to plain milk, McQueens’ flavoured milk is a nutritional powerhouse, containing nine essential vitamins and minerals. Including calcium, vitamin D and potassium, as well as protein, vitamins A and B12, riboflavin and phosphorus.

Is flavoured milk OK for my kids?

Whilst plain milk is the best choice for kids, some children just don’t love the taste, putting them at the risk of avoiding milk altogether.

Calcium is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in children and adolescents, and flavoured milk is a great way to encourage your child to get more of it in their diet. Adequate consumption of calcium will help your child build bones and keep teeth healthy. Our flavoured milk also contains the same amount of vitamin A as our plain milk, which helps the body resist infections and is needed for healthy skin and eyes.

Is flavoured milk OK to drink during pregnancy?

Milk and dairy foods are good sources of calcium, which is especially important in pregnancy because calcium is vital for making your baby’s bones and teeth. Your body uses more calcium in pregnancy than when you are not pregnant.

The NHS suggests pregnant women should have three servings of dairy each day – including β…“ pint (200ml) of semi-skimmed milk.

However, that milk doesn’t have to be plain! Flavoured milk still contains as much protein, calcium, and phosphorus as plain milk. So, if you find yourself in the mood for something more flavourful, a glass of flavoured milk is a great option to reach for.

Does flavoured milk contain gluten?

If you are avoiding gluten, you’ll be delighted to learn all three varieties of our flavoured milk are gluten-free and safe to drink on a gluten-free diet.

Is flavoured milk suitable for vegetarians?

Yes! McQueens Dairies flavoured milk is suitable for vegetarians.

What about McQueens’ strawberry flavoured milk, is it suitable for vegetarians?

Much of the red colouring used in mainstream food production (including strawberry milk) is from Cochineal. Cochineal, also known as carmine, carminic acid, Natural Red 4, or E120, is a red dye made from a crushed insect native to Latin America. It is used to colour many food and beverage products, including dairy-based drinks.
However, at McQueens Dairies, our strawberry flavoured milk is suitable for vegetarians as the colour responsible for its beautiful pink colour is sweet potato & carrot concentrate.

You’ll also be happy to hear that McQueens Dairies chocolate and banana flavoured milk are suitable for vegetarians, too!

Our chocolate flavoured milk is coloured with Caramel E150d Sulphur Dioxide, and our banana flavoured milk is coloured with Safflower Extract, Sweet Potato & Carrot Concentrate.

A recent recipe for extra creamy and fluffy scrambled eggs has gone viral with people claiming it’s “the best they’ve ever had”. When we heard about this, we of course had to see for ourselves.

Kenji LΓ³pez-Al, a well known chef came up with the simple 3 step recipe for the perfect scrambled eggs. He revealed the secret to making your scrambled eggs light and fluffy and not rubbery or chewy is to add a small amount of starch. He said: “Adding a small amount of starchy slurry to scrambled eggs prevents them from setting up too firmly. This results in the eggs that stay tender and moist”.

The viral recipe says by adding 2 tablespoons of starch when making your eggs, this will make for the perfect texture to your scrambled eggs. You can use cornflour or potato starch to do this.

The Recipe

For the method, Kenji says to whisk in the starch with 1 and a 1/2 teaspoons of water until it is completely smooth with no lumps, before adding half the butter cubes, eggs and salt and whisking until “frothy”.

Then, heat a tablespoon of water in a nonstick skillet over medium-high, swirling gently until the water evaporates. Making sure to leave behind only a few small droplets.

Next, immediately add the remaining two tablespoons butter and swirl until the butter is mostly melted and foamy. This should take about 10 seconds. Finally, add the egg mixture and “cook, pushing and folding the eggs with a spatula, until they are slightly less cooked than you’d like them, about one to two minutes, depending on doneness.” says Kenji.

The chef lastly says “More vigorous stirring will result in finer, softer curds, while more leisurely stirring will result in larger, fluffier curds. Immediately transfer to the serving plate, and serve.”

Since the recipe went viral, many have taken to the internet to express their delight in finding this recipe. One said “These scrambled eggs are the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ll remember to take a photo next time before I inhale them”. Another said ” I am so pleased to have found this recipe for scrambled eggs. The starch really makes the difference”

We’re sure you will love trying this easy scrambled eggs recipe

There are many alternatives to tradition cow’s milk that are becoming increasingly popular in today’s society. When we started our very first milk round in 1995, cow’s milk was the only product we delivered. Fast forward to 2021, we are now deliver milk, juice, eggs and a range of non dairy milk alternatives including Oato. It is one of the best milk alternatives for its ingredients and taste. The protein it contains also make its a great high protein milk alternative.

We have recently teamed up with Oato to provide customers with a quality oat milk in reusable glass bottles.
